The Faculty of Mechatronics and Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies (FM) at the Technical University of Liberec is the only faculty of this type in Czech Republic. Students are educated in a multi-science environment. Scientific and engineering branches forming the profile of the courses are: Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Physics. Graduates find very good placements as both Czech and foreign firms are interested in their abilities. Several graduates follow careers in to the European Union institutions.

FM TUL is accredited at the European Federation of National Engineering Associations (FEANI) and registered in FEANI index. It offers structured programmes of studies.
FM TUL supports students' mobility. Study stays at universities and important EU laboratories are part of the education policy. The faculty offers a large choice of individual study stays and practical scientific exchanges with foreign higher education schools. Good international relations are implemented through the participation of scientific research teams in international projects.

FM TUL is a dynamically developing faculty. Its dynamism is reflected by activities extending beyond the common educational frame. The faculty can be proud of its laboratories, with top quality equipment where students participate in numerous scientific and creative technical activities. These activities are oriented towards the fields of electro-techniques, electronics, mechatronics, control, measuring and computer engineering, artificial intelligence, mathematical modelling of natural processes and science engineering. The faculty staff are engaged in four research centres: Advanced Redevelopment Technologies and Processes, Textile, Progressive Technologies and Systems for Energetics and the Centre of Production Quality and Reliability. Students are members of the faculty scientific teams, collaborating closely with industrial companies in solving specific assignments.
FM TUL went into fundamental restructuring in 2006. Led by an aspiration to strengthen its position in the field of science and research, it established research institutes instead of traditional departments. This structural change declares a prospective trend in connecting research in the field of informatics with technical and science disciplines, and fulfils the function of the faculty in terms of interdisciplinary research and education.

The faculty activity is concentrated into four research institutes:
