A short history

 

The Technical university of Liberec is the continuity of the College of Mechanical Engineering that was founded in 1953. Besides two original faculties (Mechanical Engineering and Textile Engineering), four faculties emerged from 1990 to 1995. The Institute of Health Studies was established in 2004 as an independent unit within TUL, so the spectrum of offered study programmes has been considerably enlarged. The international prestige of TUL is also systematically increasing. The University of Liberec collaborates in science and research with prestigious universities and science institutions all over the world. Students have the opportunity to complete part of their studies abroad.
TUL offers bachelor, master and doctoral study programmes.  

The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering
Offers studies in technical branches within eleven departments. Its major asset is the close link with industrial professional practices even at an international level, and the use of the most modern observations in science and research.

The Faculty of Textile Engineering
Provides education at eight departments in accordance with the requirements of modern textile industry and the latest scientific accomplishments. The faculty is unique in Czech Republic and has international prestige.

The Faculty of Economics
Within nine departments, it grants education in the fields of economics, legislation, finance and accounting, management and marketing skills and information technologies. Its advantage is the above standard language teaching.

The Faculty of Education
Offers teaching and non-teaching study branches at 15 departments oriented to humanities and sciences. The management of the faculty believes that to be a teacher is a mission that requires not only knowledge and skills but the personality as a whole.

The Faculty of Architecture
In its programme, the faculty has profiled itself as small, open and dynamic. It has found its own model of a modern school of architecture. It also offers studies oriented to fine arts.

The Faculty of Mechatronics and Interdisciplinary Engineering Studies
It is the only faculty of its type in Czech Republic, educating within four research institutes specialized in multi-science disciplines profiled from mechanical engineering, electro technical and information oriented traditional studies. Several graduates have followed careers into the institutions of the European Union. 
 
The Institute of health care studies
Provides education in a three-year full-time study programme Nursing. The programme fulfils the requirements for professional, theoretical and practical preparation of general nurses responsible for nursing care.
