ECTS Credit Allocation

ECTS, the European Credit Transfer System, was developed by the European Commission to provide common procedures to guarantee the full transferability of credits for university studies abroad in order that they might count towards a final qualification in the home country. It provides a way of measuring and comparing academic merits and transferring them from one institution to another.
Studies in a Bachelor and Master programme are realized by means of a credit system. In a Doctoral study programme studies are realized by means of a credit system if the study programme is accredited in this way or if the Dean decides so.

The process of giving ECTS credits takes place:
a) when making a standard study plan when preparing acreditation for a new study programme, resp. study field,
b) when innovating important subjects and standard study plan when preparing acreditation of the study plan, resp. Study field,
c) when innovating other parts or whole new academic year.

During the preparations of a study programme or study field, the basic study plan is made so complete load on student is 60 ECTS credits (1500 - 1800 hours) usually divided in two equal parts – semesters – that is 30 ECTS credits per semester.
For every subject added into a standard study plan, these fields will be set:
a) aims of subject and learning outcomes;
b) activities as the means of achieving these aims;
c) time consumption of these activities;
d) amount of ECTS credits on the basis of this time consumption.
Essential innovations od study subjects and plans are a subject to reacreditation of the study programme or field. In this case, the procedure is taken so it is corresponding to preparations of acreditations of a study program or field.

Each subject included in the study programmes is assigned a certain number of credits expressing the workload needed for completion of the subject. The same subject has the same credit value for all forms of study of the relevant study programme.
Study workload of student represents average time needed to fulfill all the educational activities connected to learning and to the aim to achieve the assumed learning goals. Mainly these are lectures, seminars, laboratory works, self-studying, seminar works, projects, individual work on desired themes, preparations for inclusion and exams. Quantification of study load is not influenced by the study type (bachelor, master or doctor), subject type (compulsory, non-compulsory, ...), subject significance or intensity of direct contact education.
Credits for a subject (or for the equivalent subject by which it has been replaced) can be obtained only once during studies in a particular study programme. The maximum number of credits which can be obtained for these subjects is stated in their respective syllabi.
According to the study programme, a student must obtain the number of credits equal to at least the standard number of years of studies multiplied by sixty. The credits must be obtained for subjects required by the studyprogramme and the study plan.
